David Vail’s newest single is a cover of Whitesnake’s 1987 tune “Don’t Turn Away.” Recording for this song began back in 2019 when David teamed up with Zohar to lay down the initial tracks. When the pandemic struck, the project was put on pause until Listen Up resumed socially-distant programming in the summer of 2020. David began working with Jon to add new parts, but safety precautions soon sent the group back to working virtually. Undeterred, David added new vocal and synth recordings from his home studio and worked with Jon to finalize the mixes over Zoom sessions. The final song features Zohar on bass and guitar, Jon on lead guitar, and David on drums, synth, and vocals.
“I really am a fan of Whitesnake,” says David. “I like their music a lot and this is one of the songs that I feel gets lost amid all the bigger ones like ‘Here I Go Again’ and ‘Still of the Night.’ I feel like this is a hidden gem of a Whitesnake song so it’s the first one I wanted to cover. This will be part of a series called Project Snakebite. Enjoy!”
